You Don't Know (What you don't know)
One way to suggest to wildland firefighters that there is always more to learn is through mentorship. Pairing firefighters with more experienced mentors can help them gain a deeper understanding of the job and the potential risks involved. The mentor can provide guidance and share their own experiences and lessons learned, which can help the firefighter develop a more realistic understanding of their own abilities.
Another approach is to encourage continuous learning and professional development. This can include ongoing training, workshops, and courses that focus on specific skills and knowledge. Encouraging firefighters to take advantage of these opportunities can help them develop a more comprehensive understanding of the job and the risks involved.
It's also important to establish a culture of safety within the organization. This can include regular safety meetings, drills, and discussions on best practices. By promoting a culture of safety, newer firefighters will be more likely to understand the importance of being cautious and taking the necessary precautions.
Finally, it's important to create a positive and encouraging environment where all firefighters feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their concerns, and seeking help when needed. By fostering an open and supportive atmosphere, all firefighters will be more likely to understand that they have much to learn and they should approach their work with humility and caution.
In summary, one way to suggest to wildland firefighters that there is always more to learn is through :mentorship, continuous learning, professional development, creating a culture of safety, and fostering a positive and supportive environment.

Driving
Slow and steady in all conditions gets us and the trucks home in one piece.
Drivers have a huge responsibility. Help them . No distractions.
Check the oil.
Clean the glass and the cab. Check for tires that might need air.
Cabin air filter replacement:Several times this season (2022) our trucks, sometimes brand new,
have returned to Ashland with the cabin air filter removed.
This can lead to complete failure of the A/C system.
This allows unknown amounts of dirt directly into the a/c. Please take care of the equipment we are all depending on.

10-15-21 Labels on Firepacks
Everyone needs to keep a legible nametag on their firepack throughout the season.
It helps tremendously to keep track and organize to be fire ready.
We say this due to repeatly finding many unmarked packs among dozens on the shop floor
. The trend seems to be the very cool, yet unlabelled "Mystery Ranch"packs are often the
unknowns.
Vehicle Maintenance Logbooks 9-24-21
You will find these logbooks in our rigs.
If we take care of our trucks , they will take care of us.
The cover of each book will have truck number, make, model and year. Our goal is to record
a description of service, new parts, oil changes, new filters, etc., with the dates and mileage.
Needs for the truck are important as well.
Please note vehicle items that need checked or fixed when returning from an assignment.
Also maintenance done at the assignment.
The importance of frequently checking the oil and condition of engine air filters cannot be over stated.
We had to pull trucks and engines from service due to neglecting these simple but vital checks.
Sometimes engines neeeded to be replaced keeping trucks offline in the peak of fire season.
Need oil? Synthetic for Chevrolets these days. Conventional for Fords. Our new Ram 2500s use
synthetic. If needed they can be mixed. Much better than running with the oil level too low.
Following our own trucks too close has resulted in accidents and is an easily preventable problem.
Following with more space increases visability and reduces dust in the engine air filter, and is much, much safer.
When backing our trucks always use a backing spotter.
Take an active role in driving safety as a passenger. Assist the driver when needed and help keep
distractions at a minimum.
Total control of the vehicle at any speed is critical.
We are employed to provide emergency services. Maintaining strong vehicles is major part
of being Fire Ready.
