Summary of 2022 IRPG updates NWCG Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG), PMS 461, Summary of 2022 Updates

The 2022 edition of the IRPG  includes a new section :Fire Environment Assessment

This video with Region 5 Meteorologist Brent Watcher introduces this and  the use of the NWCG

Fire Enviroment Poster Link  and the NWCG Fire Weather Cloud Chart Link

"The aim for the new changes in the IRPG is for us to "Up Our Game", to raise our level of understanding."                                                                                       Brent Watcher

Look Up,Down, and Around (new format)is in the Fire Assesssment section   (p 34)

Probability of Ignition (new format) (p 44)         is followed by a chart called:

Fine Fuel Moisture and Fire Behavior  ( p 49)

                     This chart inputs :

            RH-relative humidity

TLFM- Time Lag Fuel Moisture ( 1 hour and 10 hour fuel moisture percent)

             PIG-probability of ignition

With this information it can help us interpret outcomes from Very Low Ignition to

                      Extreme Ignition and Initial Spread

It also includes FFMC-fine fuel moisture code ( comes from the CFFRDS-Canadian Forest

Fire  Danger Rating System ( see p 158 of https://gacc.nifc.gov/oncc/predictive/analysis/docs/FBFRG_2014.pdf
