Another jury awards millions to fire victims in Oregon
Oregon legislators are proposing new sources of supplemental funding for wildfire fighting costs.
One proposal is to charge landowners an extra $10 a year. Another proposal is to tax timber harvested on
private land.
2 new laws take effect in Oregon in 2024. One, saying insurance companies must explain to home owners
why their rates are increasing or their policy is being dropped. Another, says the companies must take into
account home owners efforts to harden their homes against wildfire when setting rates.
